Tiger Woods Misses Cut At U.S. Open
6 years agoA week that began with anticipation and excitement for Tiger Woods, ended with a disappointing missed cut Friday. Woods entered the second round of the U.S. Open at 8-over par following a terrible opening round. The three-time U.S. Open champion played better in his second round, grinding out a 2-over par 72, but missed the 36-hole cut with a total score of 10-over par. Woods had shown flashes of his former greatness in tournaments leading up to the U.S. Open, but was never comfortable at Shinnecock Hills this week. Tough conditions and a balky putter prevented the 14-time major champion from ever being in contention. Tiger's latest comeback from a debilitating back injury has been very successful, but this week's performance coupled with his mediocre results in the Masters, confirm that he is not yet able to compete on the major championship level. Woods will take a week off to regroup before getting back in action at the Quicken Loans National tournament.
