Theo Gillen Goes To Tampa Bay At No.18
4 months agoThe Tampa Bay Rays selected second baseman/shortstop Theo Gillen with the 18th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. Gillen emerged as one of the top high school players in the state of Texas a few years ago but was limited by a torn labrum in his sophomore season and a knee injury as a junior. However, during his senior campaign, the 18-year-old showcased his elite potential and quickly regained the high-draft capital he had when he first started high school ball. Scouts credit Gillen's bat and describe him as the best among his fellow high school graduates in the class. He is described as having strong raw power, which should allow him to hit close to 20 home runs at the major league level every season. Gillen should be considered a project going forward and is a name to keep a close eye on as he settles in at the lower levels of the minor leagues next summer.
