6 months agoComing off a T6 at the PGA Championship thanks to a career-best 62 on Saturday that propelled him to only a couple of shots back going into the final round, Shane Lowry heads north to this week's Canadian Open with more questions than answers. Yes, he had a quality finish in a major, but, he did so by losing strokes on approach (-0.23 for the week) and was ranked 47th out of the guys who made the weekend in strokes gained tee to green (+0.49). All that is to say--a hot putter cures a lot of woes. And gaining over 10 shots on the greens through the first three rounds is about as hot as it gets. The thing going for Lowry is a tie for second here in 2019, which was the last time this event was held at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Additionally, his bad ball-striking performance at Valhalla was an anomaly from his typical stat sheet in 2024, but, so was his good putting.
