Cowboys Want to Sign DeMarcus Lawrence to a Long-Term Deal
7 years agoThe Dallas Cowboys have made it clear that they want to sign defensive tackle DeMarcus Lawrence to a long-term deal this offseason. Lawrence is set to become a free agent, but the team can keep him around by using the franchise tag if a long-term deal cannot be reached. “Our first goal is to sign him to a long-term deal, obviously,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said from the Senior Bowl. “To me, the only reason you use a franchise tag is to hopefully protect yourself if you can’t get a long-term deal signed that you like. That’s normally the route we like to go." Lawrence and the Cowboys have until March 6 to figure out a long-term deal before the franchise tag would have to be applied. Either way, Lawrence will be with the Cowboys for at least the 2018 season.
