Tejay Antone To Miss First Half Of Season
2 years agoCincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) had a setback with his right elbow and likely will not be ready to pitch in the first half of the 2023 season due to a flexor strain in his right forearm. It comes after he missed all of last season while recovering from a second Tommy John surgery. Antone received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Tuesday. The 29-year-old was one of the Reds' best relievers in 2021, posting a 2.14 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 23 appearances while walking 13 and striking out 42. Alexis Diaz is projected to serve as Cincinnati's closer this year, and Lucas Sims and Reiver Sanmartin will have even bigger setup roles now with Antone likely out for the entire first half. Sims pitched in just six games in 2022 due to a back injury that required surgery.
