Although a trade is considered unlikely, NFL teams have inquired with the Indianapolis Colts about the possibility of trading quarterback Anthony Richardson, who was benched in favor of veteran Joe Flacco for Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings. FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz says that several teams that he spoke to still view Richardson as a franchise-caliber QB and think that the Colts pulling the plug on him after 10 regular-season starts is "premature." Richardson's fantasy stock has taken a major hit, as he's now rostered in only 49% of Yahoo leagues after his benching, but the Colts could go back to the young signal-caller if Flacco struggles at all. Head coach Shane Steichen said himself that the Colts are "not giving up on Richardson by any means." Still, the 22-year-old's struggles as a passer have been glaring, and he's also proven to be quite injury-prone early in his NFL career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones will begin competing for the starting role in 2025 when their offseason program begins on Tuesday. Both Richardson and Jones are former top-10 picks that haven't lived up to their draft stock so far in their careers. Richardson has elite rushing upside, but he needs to improve as a passer and has missed 17 of a possible 34 games due to two injuries. "You don't want to begin with an end in mind," general manager Chris Ballard said. "If I'm a betting man, at some point, both of them will help us." Richardson was going through the draft process before his rookie year and was recovering from shoulder surgery last offseason, so he'll have his first normal offseason to prepare going into the 2025 campaign. He has more pure fantasy upside due to his rushing ability, but his draft stock is way down with the possibility that both Jones and Richardson are making starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones will split first-team repetitions in practices as soon as the team begins offseason workouts on April 21, according to head coach Shane Steichen. The Colts don't plan to ease the two QBs into the competition for the starting job. Steichen said "it's going to come down to who's the most consistent, who's the most productive, will be the starter." The Colts still hope that Richardson, the former fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, will develop into the long-term franchise starting signal-caller. But the 22-year-old has been way too inconsistent as a passer in his first two NFL seasons and has missed 17 of a possible 34 games due to four separate injuries. He completed just 47.7% of his passes in 2024, but his dynamic abilities as a runner make continue to give him high-end QB1 upside if he can ever put it all together and stay healthy.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Indianapolis Colts are preparing for an open quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson, who is healthy and has no plans to seek a trade, and Daniel Jones, agent Deiric Jackson told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "AR will be ready to roll," Jackson said. The plan all along was for the Colts to bring another QB in to compete with Richardson, who missed time with another injury in 2024 and was also benched in favor of veteran Joe Flacco. Jones will be that guy after inking a one-year, $14 million deal with Indy after he was cut by the New York Giants a season ago. The 27-year-old latched on with the Minnesota Vikings late in the year but never played. As long as Richardson stays healthy, it would be an upset if Jones won the job over him, but Richardson definitely needs to show improvement as a passer to take the next step. If Richardson wins the job, he'll have QB1 upside because of his rushing prowess.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said on Tuesday that the team will have an open competition at quarterback this offseason between Anthony Richardson and another player that is brought in. The Colts could draft a signal-caller -- they have the 14th overall pick in this year's NFL draft -- or pick a veteran up in free agency to compete with Richardson, who disappointed in his sophomore season and was limited to 11 starts due to more injuries and a benching. The 22-year-old former fourth overall pick out of Florida in 2023 only played in four games in his rookie season. Through his first two seasons in the NFL, Richardson has proved injury-prone and is a reliability in terms of accuracy, as he completed only 47.7% of his 264 pass attempts for 1,814 yards, eight TDs and 12 interceptions. The rushing upside is great, but fantasy managers will probably value him as more of an upside QB2 in 2025 if he wins the starting job.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
