Tayron Guerrero An Option To Close Out Games?
6 years agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Tayron Guerrero had 11 pitches that touched at least 100 mph in the game against the Braves on Friday night, and he is raising questions as to whether he could work his way into the closer role. He spent the offseason working on his secondary pitches to complement his upper-90s fastball. Drew Steckenrider, Sergio Romo and Adam Conley are the candidates for the ninth inning right now with Miami going with the matchups in save situations, but Guerrero could be forcing his name into the mix. His four-seam fastball is averaging 98.5 mph and his slider is averaging 87.8 mph, according to Statcast. Guerrero is throwing his fastball 73.2 percent of the time and his slider 25 percent. While Guerrero isn't a name to grab in fantasy leagues just yet, you might want to keep his name handy if you're in need of saves later on.
