Taylor Montgomery Is Coming To Valspar In Good Form
1 year agoComing off his best finish of the season with a T11 at The Players, Taylor Montgomery is making his tournament debut at the Copperhead Course with a ton of momentum. The 29-year-old from Vegas gained strokes in every category at TPC Sawgrass, highlighted by 1.65 strokes gained putting (3rd best in the field) and 0.63 strokes gained around the green (9th best in the field). Taylor is handicapped some by his length off the tee with an average drive of 291.4, currently ranked 120th on year, and at 7,340 yards, it certainly isn't the shortest course on the circuit. At $9,600 on FanDuel, Montgomery is certainly worth considering this week.

Taylor Montgomery Attempts Return At Rocket Mortgage Classic
9 months agoTaylor Montgomery is another golfer who has hit a considerable rough stretch in 2024. The American golfer has not played since withdrawing from The CJ Cup Byron Nelson in early May. Ball striking has been an issue for Montgomery. While he remains first in strokes gained to putting (0.887), the golfer ranks 125th or worse in at least seven major metrics. That includes 166th for greens in regulation at 59.86%. Combine the -1.199 strokes gained lost from driving off the tee and approaching the green and those are reasons why Montgomery might struggle again in Detroit.

Taylor Montgomery Searching For Form At TPC Craig Ranch
11 months agoTaylor Montgomery had a disappointing performance at last week's team format, Zurich Classic, as he missed the cut. Unfortunately, this has become a pattern repeated in his previous four appearances. This differs from his performance at the beginning of the 2024 season, where he made five straight cuts and achieved two top-15 finishes. He faces a tough challenge at TPC Craig Ranch this week, considering that over 35% of the approach shots at last year's CJ Cup Byron Nelson came from over 200 yards. Over the previous 12 months, Montgomery ranks in the 16th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots that are over 200 yards in the fairway. Despite his recent poor performances, he could still be worth considering for DFS lineups this week.

Taylor Montgomery Looks To Bounce Back In Houston
1 year agoTaylor Montgomery missed the cut at the Valspar Championship last week, marking his second missed cut in his previous four appearances. Although he has played some great golf this year, particularly with his putter, he has struggled with his approach shots in three of his last four appearances. Montgomery must improve his approach play to be competitive this week, but it may be challenging for him at Memorial Park. Last year's tournament saw over 33% of approach shots coming from more than 200 yards, and Montgomery ranks in the 29th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from over 200 yards in the fairway over the past year. However, despite his struggles with approach play, Montgomery has been performing well with his putter, which could make him worth consideration for DFS lineups this week.

Taylor Montgomery Putting Together Solid Results
1 year agoLooking back over the last 18 months since Taylor Montgomery earned full status on the PGA Tour, it's been remarkable to watch his propensity for grinding out top results despite lacking in many of the game's key areas. Although Montgomery routinely rates out as one of the worst ball-strikers on a weekly basis, he's recorded five top-25 finishes (and just one missed cut), over his last nine starts -- including a 13th-place finish around Torrey Pines, one of the more demanding layouts we'll see all year. The putter is very clearly the greatest weapon in Montgomery's bag, and the nearly four strokes he's gained per tournament over the last year already sits as one of the more impressive stretches we've ever seen a player have on the greens. Until he proves himself as a more proficient ball striker, it's hard to project Montgomery for the same ceiling as his contemporaries. But the built-in floor afforded to him by one of the game's most elite weapons makes him a compelling play in derivative markets.
