Taylor Hearn Challenging For Spot In Texas Rotation
6 years agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Taylor Hearn, acquired in the trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates last summer for relief pitcher Keone Kala, is challenging for a starting job in spring camp. He will make his Cactus League debut against the Cleveland Indians on Monday. Hearn features a mid-90s mph fastball with a slider and a changeup, which Hearn feels is his best of the arsenal. While he has had his growth stunted by injuries, none have been to his left arm. Hearn worked more than 90 innings last season for the first time in three years as a pro, and he struck out 140 batters across just 129 innings splitting time between the Double-A teams with Pittsburgh and Texas. While he isn't someone to draft right now in AL-only fantasy play, he is someone to remember as the season goes on. It's likely he starts at Triple-A and sees time in the Metroplex by summer.
