Tanner Houck Showcases Increased Velocity
4 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher prospect Tanner Houck continued to show an increase in velocity from last year, as he sat in the 94-97 mph range with his fastball during Wednesday's spring outing, touching 98 mph twice. This is a dramatic increase from last year, when he only averaged 92.8 mph on his fastball. Houck impressed in three starts last year and was expected to compete for the No. 5 rotation spot this spring, and if he continues to show increased velocity, his fastball/slider combination could make him a valuable for the Red Sox. Houck, the team's No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will need to repeat his mechanics with an unorthodox delivery and a low arm slot in order to be effective.
