Tanner Houck Optioned To Alternate Site
4 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck has been optioned to the team's alternate site. Houck had an abysmal spring with the club. He walked 10 batters over 6.1 innings and posted an 8.53 ERA and 2.53 WHIP. The 24-year-old Houck made his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 2020 and performed exceptionally well. He made three starts and went 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 0.882 WHIP while averaging 11.1 K/9. It was a surprising run, given the fact that his 2019 minor league numbers weren't anything spectacular. He went 8-6 at Double-A and Triple-A in 2019 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.402 WHIP while averaging 8.9 K/9. Houck will be one of the first candidates to earn a spot start or join the rotation later this season as long as he performs well at the alternate site.
