2 years agoBoston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck (back) is expected to have back surgery to repair a disc issue. Houck was expected to miss the rest of the 2022 season, but this news all but confirms that. Houck has been dealing with the issue since an IL stint in early August, and even when he was pitching he wasn't feeling right. The Red Sox closer pitched to a 3.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while recording eight saves. Expect Boston to continue going with a closer-by-committee approach, with Garrett Whitlock, John Schreiber, and Matt Barnes all getting opportunities down the stretch.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
