Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson had a dominant performance in Wednesday's 9-4 victory against the Blue Jackets, as he finished with five goals and an assist in the contest. Thompson scored four of his five goals in the opening period of the game, as he tied an NHL record for goals in a period and is the fourth to do it in the first. Thompson is the first player to score five goals in a game this season, with the most recent five-goal performance coming from Sharks forward Timo Meier on January 17, 2022 of last season. Thompson brings his season total to 21 goals and 40 points through 26 games, and the 25-year-old is on pace to set career-highs across the board after a breakout 2021-22 season.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller

Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson found the back of the net during their 5-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday evening. This was the fifth time Thompson found the back of the net in as many games. During this impressive stretch, he has also added one helper. On Tuesday, he scored his goal in the second frame on a snap shot. Before this recent surge, Thompson was riding a five-game scoreless streak. Despite playing on a struggling Buffalo team, the 27-year-old has remained very productive in the offensive zone. Through 68 contests, Thompson has scored an impressive 39 goals and added 27 helpers. This is the third time in the past four seasons in which he scored at least 38 goals in a single campaign. He will look to stay hot on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Buffalo Sabres right wing Tage Thompson led the way during their 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday evening. Thompson would open the scoring in the first period as he beat Stuart Skinner with a wrist shot. Later in the third, Thompson would break the stalemate and score the game-winner. After seeing his three-game goal streak come to an end during his previous game on Saturday evening, Thompson returned to form on Monday and scored twice. Over his previous nine contests, the former 26th overall pick has scored seven goals and added one helper. Through 57 total games this season, Thompson has found the back of the net 33 times, added 23 helpers and totaled an impressive 178 shots on goal (3.1 shots on goal). He remains a must-start player and will look to kickstart another goal scoring streak on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

According to Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio, Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson (concussion) "looks good" ahead of Saturday's contest against the Nashville Predators. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during the morning skate, but he is trending toward a return. The 27-year-old has missed the previous contest due to a concussion. However, he was able to fully participate during Friday's practice, which is a great sign. Before the injury, Thompson tallied an impressive 14 points over his last nine games. During this stretch, Thompson has scored seven goals and added seven helpers. He tallied 29 shots on goal, three hits, seven blocks, and held a +10 rating. If Thompson were to return, he would reclaim his spot on the top line and be a top target in DFS facing Nashville.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

According to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News, Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson (concussion) skated on his own Wednesday morning but is still in concussion protocol. Head coach Lindy Ruff said that Thompson "feels good" but would still need to pass through the protocol to return to action. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Saturday evening against the Nashville Predators. The 27-year-old sat out during their contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday evening. Before his injury, Thompson tallied an impressive 14 points (seven goals and seven helpers) over his last nine contests. If Thompson were to miss his second straight contest, fantasy managers should expect Isak Rosen to continue to have a role on the top line.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
