Steve Cohen's Purchase Of Mets Approved By Owners, NYC
4 years agoThe New York Mets ownership bid by Steven Cohen, the billionaire hedge-fund manager of Point72 Asset Management, was approved by Major League Baseball owners on Friday. Additionally, the New York City Law Department and NYC Mayor's Office signed off on the sale on Friday despite recent reports they would raise objections. As a result, the parties will now close the transaction in the coming days. Once the sale officially closes, the purchase agreement will give Cohen immediate control of the Mets, to the delight of Mets fans. With the Wilpon ownership reign now over, Mets fans can be optimistic that new ownership will have both the resources and immense desire to invest in top-tier free-agent talent while also retaining expensive homegrown talent. Cohen, a lifelong Mets fan, will now immediately become the richest owner in Major League Baseball.
