Steelers Show Increase in Pre-Snap Motion at Hall of Fame Game
3 years agoWhile Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was in Thursday's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh dialed up 11 pre-snap motion calls on 13 pass attempts. Last season, they used pre-snap motion just 31.7% of passing attempts. NBC's Warren Sharp noted that when teams use pre-snap motion, their success rate increases. In 2020, the Titans and Ravens led the league in pre-snap motion (notably Steelers' competitors for the AFC Playoffs) and also were both top-10 in offensive DVOA. The Steelers ranked in the bottom third in offensive DVOA in 2020. Introducing more pre-snap motion should increase the efficiency of the Steelers' offense and make players like Chase Claypool, Dionte Johnson, and Najee Harris more appealing options this draft season.
