Spencer Torkelson Survives First Round Of Roster Cuts
4 years agoDetroit Tigers third baseman Spencer Torkelson has gone hitless over his first 16 plate appearances this spring and has struck out eight times. Despite the struggles, Torkelson will remain with the team for now. He survived the first round of roster cuts. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said, "We're gonna keep rolling him out there and getting him some experience." Torkelson has shown his frustration on the field. He slammed his bat at one point this past week and has commented on the increased difficulty in facing Major League pitching regularly. He said, "You're not facing a 20-year-old taking classes every day. You're facing a 25-year-old that's been doing this for a living for a couple years." Torkelson is likely to begin the year at Single-A or Double-A. The best bet for his MLB debut might be 2022.
