Spencer Howard Could Throw Bullpen Session On Sunday
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Spencer Howard (back) took a step in the right direction on Friday. Howard, who is dealing with back issues, was able to throw from 120 feet on Friday afternoon, with manager Joe Girardi saying a bullpen session on Sunday could be possible for the 24-year-old. It's currently unclear where Howard fits in with the Phillies' plans, though they'd presumably like him to be a part of the rotation at some point, albeit with a limited workload. The top pitching prospect had a rough stint in the majors last year- though he impressed in 30 2/3 innings of Double-A ball in 2019, pitching to a 2.35 ERA with a 23.8 K-BB rate and a 14.4 swinging strike rate.
