Sonny Gray Receiving Interest From Phillies
1 year agoFree-agent pitcher Sonny Gray is receiving interest from the Philadelphia Phillies on the open market and are viewed as a top contender for his services. However, the team is unlikely to add Gray if they are able to retain Aaron Nola, who is also a free agent. The 34-year-old Gray is an AL Cy Young Award finalist after working to a 2.79 ERA across 32 starts for the Minnesota Twins in 2023. The reliable right-hander sports a 3.47 ERA across 279 career appearances (270 starts) split between the Oakland A's, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, and the Twins. Phillies pitching coach Caleb Cotham was a college teammate of Gray's and also worked with him during his time with the Reds, potentially giving the club a leg up on the competition if they indeed lose Nola to another club.
