Shohei Ohtani Unlikely To Return To Mound This Week
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (finger) threw a light bullpen session on Monday, but he is unlikely to return to the rotation this week, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Manager Joe Maddon said that while the session went well for Ohtani, who pitched without a band-aid on his blister, he will be required to throw a more intense bullpen session before he can be cleared to return to the rotation, and it is unlikely that that session will happen this week. If things continue to go well, it looks like Ohtani could be back on the mound by some time next week. He has made just one start on the mound this year, allowing three runs — one earned — on two hits and five walks while striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings against the White Sox. The two-way star is dealing with a blister on his finger, but he should continue serving as the team's designated hitter in the meantime.
