Shohei Ohtani Scheduled To Pitch Next On Friday
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to make his next start on Friday against the Oakland Athletics. Ohtani had a concerning development in his most recent outing this past Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians. His overall numbers were fine as he pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out five. However, his velocity took a significant dip in the start. The average velocity on his primary pitch, his four-seam fastball, was 90.5 mph, down from 96.6 mph on the year heading into the start. His secondary pitch, his slider, was down about six mph as well. Ohtani and Angels manager Joe Maddon told reporters that they weren't concerned about the velocity dip, but the fact that Ohtani is receiving a few extra days off from pitching hints that there may be concern somewhere in the organization.
