Shohei Ohtani Misses Perfect Game, Finishes with 12 Strikeouts in Seven Innings
7 years agoAfter his perfect game attempt was broken up on a one-out single in the top of the seventh. Angels starter Shohei Ohtani was relieved by Blake Wood to start the eighth inning Sunday. Athletics shortstop Marcus Semien broke up the perfect game with a single to left, and second baseman Jed Lowrie drew a walk before Ohtani was able to retire the side and end the inning. Ohtani finished the game with 12 strikeouts, one hit and one walk over seven shutout innings. This performance capped off what has been a wild first week for him on the mound and at the plate, as he is starting to prove to fantasy owners that he might be a legitimate super star in the making.
