Shane Van Gisbergen Has Drafting Speed, but Still Has a Lot to Learn
3 months agoShane van Gisbergen makes his Atlanta debut in the NASCAR Cup Series today from 28th but he has already run two NASCAR Xfinity Series races at the track. In the winter race, he unexpectedly finished third after dodging the wrecks but he hit the wall in yesterday's Xfinity race while running in the top ten, damaging his car and resulting in a 27th place finish. SVG has had a bit of a knack for drafting tracks in the Cup Series as well because he did make a couple passes for the lead at Talladega although he did not get a good finish there and was generally a nonfactor at Daytona. Kaulig Racing is not as fast in Cup Series races on drafting ovals as in the Xfinity Series, so the race will still likely be a learning experience for him, but don't be surprised if he runs up front occasionally.
