Shane Greene, Leonys Martin Placed On Disabled List
6 years agoDetroit Tigers closer Shane Greene (shoulder) and outfielder Leonys Martin (hamstring) were both placed on the 10-day disabled list; Martin on Sunday, Greene on Monday. Greene’s injury comes as a bit of a surprise, but according to Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire, Greene “said it’s been bothering him for a while.” The injury might explain his struggles during the month of June, though he didn’t officially blow a save during that time. Regardless, he will be on the shelf to recover — especially since he’s been a long-rumored trade chip. In the meantime, Joe Jimenez may see save chances while Greene is out. Martin left the Tigers’ July 1 game with what initially was thought to be just a cramp, but has been revealed as more of a strain. The Tigers offense will lose a solid bat with his loss. In their places on the roster, the Tigers recalled outfielder Mikie Mahtook from Triple-A and reinstated relief pitcher Daniel Stumpf (arm) from the disabled list. Both Stumpf and Mahtook can both be left on the waiver wire for now.
