Seth Lugo Throws Simulated Game
5 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Seth Lugo (toe) threw 29 pitches in a simulated game on Thursday. Lugo is working his way back from a fractured left pinkie toe. Following the sim game on Thursday, Lugo indicated that he felt good. It is likely Lugo will next pitch in Grapefruit League games. Based on Lugo's progress, this injury does not appear serious and he should be ready to go by Opening Day. Lugo is expected to serve in a setup role to closer Edwin Diaz in 2020. As a setup man, Lugo does not have much appeal in leagues that do not reward holds unless Diaz gets injured or is removed from the closer role. Even then, however, save opportunities are not a given for Lugo. Dellin Betances could be next in line as the Mets closer or, alternatively, the Mets may opt to use Lugo as an opener in lieu of a bona fide fifth starter.
