Seth Lugo Impressive In No Decision
4 years agoNew York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo went 3 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Sunday and struck out seven while allowing four hits and one earned run in the Mets' 5-2 loss. Lugo, who is still in the process of being stretched out as a starter, was limited to just 60 pitches in the contest and did not factor into the decision. Lugo had been dominant as a reliever over the past few seasons, but the Mets are in dire need of help in the rotation due to a rash of injuries and ineffective starters. Despite Lugo’s prior lack of high-quality starting experience, in his two starts since being moved into the rotation Lugo has augmented his value as a starting pitcher. Although save opportunities are no longer in play for Lugo, managers should continue to roster Lugo as he is proving effective in this new role. As Lugo continues to get stretched out, his fantasy value as a starter will only increase in the second half of the season. He should help managers with solid ratios and strikeouts, though wins may be tough to come by given the sad state of the Mets' bullpen.
