Sergio Romo Records First Save
4 years agoMinnesota Twins reliever Sergio Romo got the ball in the ninth inning and shut the door for his first save of 2020. It was a surprising decision by manager Rocco Baldelli to let Romo pitch the ninth instead of closer Taylor Rogers, though the 37-year-old veteran made his manager look good. He struck out one batter in a scoreless inning. As for not using Rogers, Baldelli said "it's absolutely circumstance" and that the team wants to get their closer out there. In all likelihood, this was a matchup-driven, one-time situation, though it's certainly something to keep an eye on if you have Rogers on your roster.
