3 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Suzuki previously appeared in 41 games for Chicago earlier this season, hitting .245 with a .344 on-base percentage, four home runs, and three stolen bases in 163 plate appearances. Per a tweet from the Cubs' official Twitter account, the outfielder is back in the lineup and batting fourth for Monday's matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers and left-handed starter Eric Lauer.--Ben Rosener - RotoBaller

11 hours agoChicago Cubs outfielder/designated hitter Seiya Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run during their victory over the Athletics on Tuesday evening. Suzuki wasted little time as he launched a three-run shot in the opening frame off Athletics right-hander Luis Severino. This home run also scored outfielders Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker. After tallying just two hits over his first four games, Suzuki has turned the corner. He has now tallied at least two hits in each of his previous three contests. During this stretch, he has launched his first two round-trippers of the campaign and tallied six RBI. The 30-year-old has seen steady progression since making his MLB debut during the 2022 season. Last summer, he launched a career-best 21 home runs and held a .283/.366/.482 line. He will look to post his fourth-straight multi-hit performance on Wednesday against Athletics southpaw Jeffrey Springs.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 months agoAccording to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki will be the team's primary designated hitter during the 2025 season. Earlier in the offseason, the Chicago Cubs acquired star outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, creating a logjam in the team's outfield. However, Suzuki and manager Craig Counsell have agreed that he will spend most of the summer at the DH spot. As a result, fantasy managers should expect Ian Happ, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Kyle Tucker to operate as the team's starting outfielder throughout most of the season. While Suzuki boasts a potent bat, his defense has been quite underwhelming. Last season, he posted a poor -3 OAA. However, in the batter's box, he held a. 283/.366/.482 line with 21 home runs and 16 stolen bases. Suzuki should have prime RBI opportunities batting behind Tucker and Happ.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 months agoThe Houston Astros are targeting Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki and infielder Isaac Paredes in a possible trade for outfielder Kyle Tucker, according to sources briefed on the team's talks. The two teams have exchanged a variety of names in discussions, and any package for Tucker would also likely included prospects. Houston is also interested in third baseman Cam Smith, who was a first-rounder earlier this year. A source says the Cubs are highly unlikely to trade Suzuki and would prefer to unload Cody Bellinger's contract this offseason in a separate trade. Tucker is eligible for free agency after the 2025 season, so the Astros could be wanting to get something in return if they feel they won't be able to re-sign him. After Juan Soto's huge deal, Tucker, one of the best hitters in baseball, could command a deal of at least $400 to $500 million. The Yankees are another team pursuing a trade for Tucker.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 months agoAccording to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Chicago Cubs are "determined" to trade either outfielders Cody Bellinger or Seiya Suzuki. While Bellinger's name has been on the trade block earlier this offseason, Suzuki's name has yet to enter the conversation. Suzuki has spent each of his first three MLB seasons with the Cubs and has posted an overall .278/.354/.470 line. Last season, he hit a career-high 21 home runs and swiped a career-high 16 bags. Under the hood, he generated a stellar 49.2% hard-hit and 11.5% barrel rates. Given Chicago's surplus of young outfielders such as Pete Crow-Armstrong, Owen Caissie, Kevin Alcantara, and even top-hitting prospect infielder Matt Shaw, the Cubs may opt to ship one of these MLB bats to improve another position on their roster, which will open a spot for one of their budding prospects.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
