2 months agoAccording to the team, Texas Rangers top prospect, Sebastian Walcott, has been invited to spring training. The shortstop enjoyed a strong season at the High-A level last summer and will be rewarded with a look at the big-league camp. Across 116 games, the 18-year-old posted an impressive .261/.342/.443 line with 31 doubles, 10 home runs, and 26 stolen bases. He saw his play gradually improve throughout the season as he posted a stellar .291/.347/.514 line during the second half. Walcott was rewarded with a brief four-game look at Double-A in September. Across this short stint, the infielder tallied eight hits, including three doubles and a home run. Walcott is currently ranked as the top prospect in the Rangers system and the No.23 overall on MLB Pipeline. Dynasty managers should continue to keep a close eye on his progression as he is developing into one of the top prospects in the sport. He should be expected to open the season with Double-A Frisco.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoTexas Rangers shortstop prospect Sebastian Walcott (arm) went 1-for-2 with a solo shot in his return on Thursday. Walcott battled arm soreness throughout the week but moved past this injury quite quickly as he launched his first long ball of the spring. Later in the contest, Walcott tallied his second RBI on a groundout. The top prospect in the Texas system was invited to spring training as a non-roster invite. Walcott spent most of last season with High-A Hickory before earning a brief taste of the Double-A. Across 105 contests with High-A, the infielder posted a .261/.342/.443 slash line with 31 doubles, 10 home runs, and 26 stolen bases. He held a 52:125 BB:K ratio. Through his first five games at Double-A, Walcott tallied eight hits (four extra-base hits) with one stolen base. If he continues to produce during camp, Walcott could make a push to reach Triple-A later in the 2025 campaign.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

8 months agoTexas Rangers' top overall prospect Sebastian Walcott was a menace during Thursday's game for High-A Hickory. The 18-year-old was 2-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases for his second multi-hit, multi-steal game this month. Walcott is the youngest player in the minors to record 10 homers and 20 steals this season. The potential for the young infielder is off the charts as he has shown this season at just 18 years old. Spending the entire season at High-A, Walcott is hitting .255/.341/.422 with 10 homers, 39 RBI, and 22 stolen bases. He has the ability to contribute in all five main fantasy categories and looks to be a future star.--Brian Buckey - RotoBaller

8 months agoTexas Rangers infield prospect Sebastian Walcott continued his hot hitting on Wednesday for High-A Hickory. The Rangers No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases to add to his already impressive season. The 18-year-old had a cup of coffee for Hickory last year, but has spent all of 2024 season with the club. As one of the younger players in High-A, Walcott has showed he belongs with an all-around game that comes with a .255 batting average with 10 homers, 37 RBI and 18 RBI. The young budding start made the AL Futures roster this season and continues to blossom into one of the better infield prospects in all of baseball. With his strong showing at such a young age and his ability to help across the board, he is worth holding onto in dynasty leagues.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

8 months agoTexas Rangers shortstop prospect Sebastian Walcott went 2-for-4 with a double and home run on Thursday evening. This was his second straight game posting a multi-hit effort. This also extended his overall hitting streak to an eye-catching 13 games. In this span, the top prospect in the Texas system has held a .382/.404/.691 line with four home runs and five doubles. Through 88 games at High-A Hickory, the 18-year-old has posted a solid .254/.346/.439 line with 10 home runs and 15 stolen bases, but much of this was lowered by his slow start. Given his recent play at the plate, he could earn a brief stint at Double-A to close out the season. Walcott is a name to keep a close eye on as he is showcasing elite five-category production.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
