Seahawks, Browns Discussed Russell Wilson Trade In 2018
5 years agoThe Seattle Seahawks talked with the Cleveland Browns about a potential trade that would have sent quarterback Russell Wilson to Cleveland for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Browns believe the idea was "floated" conceptually, but the talks did happen. The placement of a no-trade clause in Wilson's extension was influenced by talk surrounding that potential trade to the Browns. Some close enough to the situation believe that Wilson eventually will be traded. Seattle would take a $39 million salary cap hit by trading Wilson in 2021, and he's due to earn $19 million that season. By 2022, the cap hit falls to $26 million. In the final year of his deal, he'll have a $39 million cap number and a $13 million cap charge if traded. In a run-heavy offense, Wilson remains a high-end QB1 in fantasy because of his big arm and ability to make plays happen with his scrambling ability.
