Aside from being virtually a home game this week for Scottie Scheffler, there isn't much reason for the world No. 1 golfer to tee it up, other than he's still looking to get the first win of the season off his back. Even without a victory, he has been in the mix of things, to some degree, in all eight starts. His ball-striking is as dominant as ever, as he ranks fourth in strokes gained on approach (plus-0.942) and sixth off the tee (plus-0.624). His short game has been an unusual struggle, ranking 79th in strokes gained around the green (plus-0.062). TPC Craig Ranch is one of the least intimidating courses around the green that players will see all season, and coupled with the need to make a ton of birdies, it fits Scheffler's current game better than most places he's competed at in 2025. As the betting favorite by a wide margin, the scale of success this week for the Texas native seems like a "win-or-bust" scenario that may not be worth it from an ownership perspective.

Scottie Scheffler appears to have officially shaken off any rust, finishing T2 at the Texas Children's Houston Open after gaining strokes across all aspects of his game. This couldn't have come at a better time for Scheffler, who looks to carry this momentum into The Masters, where few players in the history of golf have been as dominant. Scheffler has finished in the top 20 in all five of his starts at Augusta, including victories in 2022 and 2024. In these wins, he gained a combined 31.54 strokes from tee to green, an area he continues to excel in. Scheffler currently ranks third on tour in strokes gained from tee to green, gaining 1.681 strokes per round. Additionally, he ranks in the 98th percentile in proximity from 150–200 yards over the past 12 months, a critical range that accounted for 37.8% of approach shots at Augusta last year. Even at his $12,400 price tag on DraftKings, fantasy managers should confidently lean on Scheffler as he chases his third green jacket in four years— a feat not accomplished since Jack Nicklaus in 1963-1966.

Given the run he's been on over the last few seasons, it is a bit shocking that Scottie Scheffler hasn't managed to win this event despite giving it incredible chances in recent memory. He's been a bridesmaid at Memorial Park for two of the last three years, and with the slow and frustrating start to 2025, getting back in the winner's circle this week could be exactly what he needs to jumpstart the momentum before Augusta. Unsurprisingly, the work on and around the green has been his issue, as the 28-year-old still ranks second on the season in strokes gained tee to green (+1.685). Compared to someone like Rory McIlroy, who's teeing it up this week to keep the mind sharp and the competitive juices flowing, look for Scheffler to put much more effort into these four days and be a more useful asset in DFS lineups.

Although Scottie Scheffler gained strokes in nearly every aspect of his game at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his struggles with his putter -- where he lost 5.3 strokes -- kept him from climbing the leaderboard as he ultimately finished T11. He now turns his attention to The PLAYERS Championship, where he's looking to secure a third consecutive victory. In his back-to-back wins in 2023 and 2024, Scheffler gained a combined 33.046 strokes from tee to green, and he'll need to excel in this category again, with a particular focus on accuracy off the tee and on approach. Scheffler ranks 112th in driving accuracy but is 50th in strokes gained off the tee (0.289 per round), second in strokes gained from tee to green (1.341 per round), and seventh in approach (0.960 per round). He also ranks in the 99th percentile over the last 12 months in proximity from 100-150 yards, a range that accounted for 32.3% of all approach shots at Sawgrass last year. Fantasy managers should once again play Scheffler with confidence as he looks for the three-peat at TPC Sawgrass.
