Scott Piercy Continues Surprising Play In Second Round
6 years agoScott Piercy continued his solid play Friday in the U.S. Open. An alternate to make it into the field at Shinnecock Hills this week, Piercy has surprised many with his sharp play. The veteran followed up an opening round 69 with a 1-over par 71 in the second round. Piercy is an excellent ballstriker that found 13 of 14 fairways Friday. The 36-hole total of even par has Piercy in a tie for second with Charley Hoffman and four shots behind leader Dustin Johnson. This is not the first time Piercy has tangled with Johnson in a U.S. Open, as he finished second to Johnson in the 2016 edition at Oakmont. Piercy will try to keep pace with the superstar Saturday when they play together in the final group.
