Scott Oberg Starts It Off With A Save
5 years agoThe Scott Oberg era has officially begun for now, as the Colorado Rockies' new closer closed out their win against the Giants on Friday night. It wasn't Oberg's finest inning, giving up a pair of hits and needing a double play to finish it out, but it got the job done. Oberg has been Colorado's most dependable bullpen arm this year by far, so he was the logical choice to take over as closer when Wade Davis' struggles came to a head, but it's not clear how well he'll handle the role yet. The last time Oberg was a regular closer was Double-A in 2014, but he should get a decent amount of leash. There's no reason to think Davis is suddenly going to rediscover velocity, and pretty much everyone else in the Colorado bullpen has struggled this year, so owners should feel fairly comfortable rolling with Oberg for now.
