9 months agoFree-agent pitcher Scott Alexander has agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland A's. The left-hander spent the 2023 season with the San Francisco Giants, another Bay Area club, and worked to a 4.66 ERA across 55 outings (eight starts). However, Alexander posted an eye-popping 1.04 ERA across 17 outings in the 2022 season and has posted an ERA of 3.68 or better in seven MLB seasons since his debut in the 2015 campaign. All told, the 34-year-old has impressed with a 3.29 ERA across 283 MLB appearances despite his strikeout rate sitting at just 17.9% in that time. A massive 68.4% ground-ball rate has been his key in run prevention while he has allowed just 0.57 HR/9 across his 270 2/3 innings of big-league work.--Brenton Kemp
