Sandy Alcantara Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
1 year agoMiami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (elbow), the 2022 National League Cy Young winner, underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday and posted the news on his social-media account. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister. Alcantara will now miss the entire 2024 season. The 28-year-old was shut down in late September due to a UCL sprain in his right shoulder and he has elected to go the Tommy John route and try to return in 2025. The Dominican right-hander wasn't nearly as good for the Fish in 2023 as he was in 2022, going 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA (4.03 FIP), 1.21 WHIP, 48 walks and 151 strikeouts in 184 2/3 innings over his 28 starts. Alcantara should still be on the radar as a high-end fantasy ace when he returns to Miami in 2025.
