Sandy Alcantara To Throw A Bullpen On Wednesday
4 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (elbow) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. It's a big step for Alcantara, as it will be his first time throwing off a mound since having Tommy John surgery in October of last year. The 28-year-old National League Cy Young winner in 2022 started his throwing program back in March and is just now ready to throw off a mound. Alcantara isn't going to return to the Marlins' starting rotation in 2024, but as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks as he begins building his arm up this fall, he should be ready to roll in spring training and the start of the regular season in 2025. When Alcantara comes back next year, he'll be hoping to bounce back from his disappointing 2023 campaign, when he went 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 151 strikeouts and 48 walks in 184 2/3 innings over his 28 starts.
