Sandy Alcantara Throws Another Bullpen, Hopeful To Return
1 year agoMiami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (forearm) threw 20 pitches in his second bullpen session on Monday and mixed in all of his pitches. When asked if he could return this season, Alcantara said, "Hopefully." The 28-year-old is hoping to make a start or two to close out the 2023 regular season, but he still has some hurdles to clear before returning from the 15-day injured list, mainly facing live hitters. The Dominican starting pitcher won the National League Cy Young in his sixth MLB season in 2022, but he hasn't been quite as good in his seventh season for the Fish in 2023. In 28 starts, Alcantara has gone 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA (4.03 FIP), 1.21 WHIP, 48 walks and 151 strikeouts in 184 2/3 innings pitched.
