Sandy Alcantara Diagnosed With UCL Sprain
1 year agoMiami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that right-hander Sandy Alcantara's (forearm) MRI exam revealed a UCL sprain in his right forearm/elbow. Schumaker was non-committal about Alcantara's return this year but noted "watching him throw is a good thing. It's a progression. We're going to watch it every day and go from there." Last year's National League Cy Young winner went on the 15-day injured list a week ago, and chances are he's pitched in his last game of the 2023 season. The two-time All-Star took a step back from his dominating performance in 2022, going 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA (4.03 FIP), 1.21 WHIP, 48 walks and 151 strikeouts in 184 2/3 innings over 28 starts this year.
