Sandy Alcantara Agrees To Five-Year Contract Extension
3 years agoMiami Marlins right-handed starter Sandy Alcantara agreed to a five-year, $56 million contract extension on Sunday, according to sources. In addition to Alcantara, the Marlins committed $109 million to the right-hander and free-agent outfielder Avisail Garcia on Sunday. Alcantara's deal includes a $21 million option for a sixth year, and he'll also receive a $1.5 million signing bonus. The option comes with a $2 million buyout. The 26-year-old is a rising star in the majors and is coming off a career year with career-highs in innings (205 2/3) and strikeouts (201). He had a 3.19 ERA in 33 starts and became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to go over 200 innings and 200 strikeouts in the same season. Alcantara, who was an All-Star in 2019, will continue to be the Marlins ace for years to come.
