Salvador Perez Getting A Day Off Monday
1 year agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez is not in the starting lineup for Monday night's series opener against the Minnesota Twins. Perez has been slumping at the dish of late, collecting just a pair of hits -- both singles -- over his last seven games spanning 30 trips to the plate. The veteran backstop has struck out nine times against just two walks in that span. For the season, Perez is hitting .253 with 15 home runs, the latter of which leads all MLB catchers. However, his 24% strikeout rate would be the second-worst mark of his career if the season ended today while his 96 wRC+ would be his second-worst mark over the last six campaigns. Freddy Fermin will take over behind the plate and hit sixth against Twins right-hander Joe Ryan on Monday evening.
