Sabres, Avalanche Swap Casey Mittelstadt, Bowen Byram
8 months agoThe Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche have made a trade that will send center Casey Middlestadt to the Avs while defenseman Bowen Byram goes to the Sabres. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a career year that has seen him post 14 goals and 47 points across 62 games. He is on pace to surpass the 15 goals and 59 points he recorded last season while his 18:16 of average ice time is by far a career-high, as well. Byram, 22, was taken with the fourth-overall pick of the 2019 draft by the Avalanche but has seen his young career stall due to multiple concussions. He appeared in just 72 games across a two-season span before skating in 55 of Colorado's 63 games this season. He has a healthy eight goals and 20 points on the season but became expendable once the Avs acquired defenseman Sean Walker from the Flyers on Wednesday.
