Ryne Stanek To Open, Yonny Chirinos To Follow Friday
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitchers Ryne Stanek and Yonny Chirinos will make up the first two pitchers on Friday against the Yankees, respectively. Stanek typically pitches one to two innings on “opener” days with a couple of options to relieve him and pitch the next three to six innings. On Wednesday, Stanek opened and was followed by Jalen Beeks, who only pitched three innings but earned the win. On Friday, Chirinos will get the ball in the second or third inning. This isn’t optimal from a fantasy standpoint, especially for leagues with quality starts. However, on a good team like the Rays, the “bulk” pitcher, in this case Beeks or Chirinos, have a good shot at getting a win. This limits the amount of at-bats the hitters get against any one pitcher, giving the pitching staff the advantage.
