Ryan Yarbrough Designated For Assignment
2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays designated left-hander Ryan Yarbrough for assignment on Tuesday, and he'll likely be non-tendered by Friday's deadline, which would make him a free agent and able to sign with any team. Yarbrough ended his 2022 season on the injured list due to an oblique strain, and he struggled when he was healthy to the tune of a 4.50 ERA (4.77 FIP), a 1.37 WHIP, 61 strikeouts and 22 walks in 80 innings pitched over 20 appearances (nine starts). Yarbrough hasn't been as good in the last two seasons in Tampa, but he's mostly been an effective swing man in his five big-league seasons for the Rays. In his career, the 30-year-old southpaw has a 4.33 ERA (4.15 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP and a 467:131 K:BB in 579 2/3 innings over 127 outings (59 starts), all with the Rays.
