Ryan Weathers Picks Up Third Victory
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Ryan Weathers gathered his third victory Monday against the Chicago Cubs with five frames of three-run baseball. The 21-year-old rookie yielded five singles and a walk, with the primary damage against him coming in a three-run third inning. He struck out four and threw 47 of 81 pitches for strikes. Despite a stellar start to the season, Weathers has exhibited bottom-20th percentile statcast metrics and the headline numbers are starting to normalize. Overall, he still possesses a solid 2.44 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19 percent strikeout rate over 44 ⅓ innings, but a 4.99 xERA suggests further corrections are upcoming. If the Friars maintain their six-man rotation, Weathers is avoidable next Monday in Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies.
