San Diego Padres pitching prospects Ryan Weathers and Joey Cantillo will likely be alternate-site starters once the season starts. The team’s No. 9 and 10 prospects, respectively, had little shot of making the big league roster but will stay sharp while tuning up Padres hitters waiting for call-ups. Weathers, 20, posted a 3.84 ERA in 22 starts last season in Single-A with a diverse arsenal ideal for a mid-rotation starter. Cantillo impressed with a 2.26 ERA in 22 starts across Single- and High-A in 2019 but faltered slightly at higher competition. The 20-year-old possesses strong control with upside if he harnesses his secondary pitches. For dynasty leagues, it’s positive Weathers and Cantillo earned spots in the player pool, but they’re both likely years away from the majors.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers (forearm) is set to throw a pitch design on Tuesday. Weathers has been sidelined since March due to a forearm strain. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on March 27. However, he quickly began a throwing progression and was able to make his first minor-league rehab start on April 28. In his first rehab outing with Low-A Jupiter, Weathers was sharp and tossed three no-hit innings. He struck out six batters. However, in his second outing, he was moved up to Triple-A but took a step back and allowed two runs across 2 2/3 innings of work. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status, as he could be cleared to make his 2025 season debut sometime next week. When he does get cleared to return, he would be worth adding in all standard formats after posting a 3.63 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP across 86 2/3 innings last summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (forearm) had a successful first minor-league rehab start on Sunday at Single-A Jupiter, tossing three scoreless and hitless innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Weathers looked good in his first rehab outing and will now likely be moved up to Double-A or Triple-A for his next rehab start. The 25-year-old southpaw has been on the 15-day injured list since the 2025 regular season started, but he might need only one or two more rehab outings before the Marlins look to activate him and return him to their starting rotation. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should think about scooping Weathers up if he's available on your waiver wire. He has breakout potential if he can stay healthy after going 5-6 with a 3.63 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.18 WHIP with 80 strikeouts and 24 walks in 16 starts covering 86 2/3 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (forearm) will begin his minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter on Sunday, according to a source. Weathers is finally ready to pitch in games after injuring his left flexor muscle in spring training. In a best-case scenario, the 25-year-old southpaw could be ready to come off the injured list to make his 2025 season debut in early May. The former first-rounder of the San Diego Padres in 2018 went 5-6 with a 3.63 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.18 WHIP with 80 strikeouts and 24 walks in 86 2/3 innings in 16 starts in his first full season with the Fish a year ago. Despite missing time with a finger injury, he displayed career-best walk and strikeout rates, leading many to believe he could be in store for a breakout season in 2025 once he returns from his forearm injury. Weathers is worth stashing now if he's available on your league's waiver wire.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday at loanDepot Park before the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will have a couple more bullpen sessions before going on a minor-league rehab assignment, according to El Extra Base's Daniel Alvarez-Montes. Weathers said over the weekend that he could join Miami's starting rotation in the first week of May, barring any setbacks. The 25-year-old southpaw is recovering from a left flexor strain that he suffered in spring training, but he's getting closer to being able to make his 2025 debut. The former first-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2018 is worth stashing in most fantasy formats while he rehabs, as he showed signs in 2024 in his first full season with the Fish of a potential breakout this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
