Ryan Sherriff Notches First Save
3 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitcher Ryan Sherriff struck out one over a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. He entered Wednesday's game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The southpaw retired all three batters he faced to earn his first save of the season. Sherriff owns a 4.82 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 10:4 K: BB across 9 1/3 innings in 2021. The Rays continue to use a closer-by-committee, and Sherriff was called up upon for Wednesday's save opportunity. Nick Anderson (elbow) and Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) are expected to handle ninth-inning duties for Tampa Bay once activated from the injured list. Fantasy managers desperate for saves can add Sherriff in the short term.
