Ryan Preece's Paltry Road Course Record Makes Him an Extreme Sonoma Longshot
6 months agoAlthough Ryan Preece has improved his finishing position in each of his NASCAR Cup Series starts at Sonoma, having finished 29th in 2019, 21st in 2021, and 13th in 2023, don't expect that trend to continue in this weekend's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma. Not only is his 30th-place starting position his worst ever at the track, the Stewart-Haas Racing cars were all fairly slow and Preece has only a single top-10 and 10 laps led on road courses in his career. Additionally, Preece has been consistently slower than all three of his teammates all season. While his past history at Sonoma suggests he will likely finish the race on the lead lap, he probably will not run in the top 15 or even in the top 20 very much unless he goes off strategy.
