2 years agoStewart-Haas Racing's Ryan Preece secured his first career NASCAR Cup Series pole for the NOCO 400 at Martinsville. Preece was the fastest car in the final round of qualifying, finishing at 94.780 mph. This was the only lap to break 20 seconds around the "paperclip", measuring only 0.526 miles. Preece surprised the field in qualifying after a practice session to forget. During practice, Preece was 31st over one lap. The No. 41 car ran 20th over 20 laps. Preece is hoping on Sunday his qualifying effort is the speed he brings to the track.--Eric DeWilde
