1 year agoAlthough Ryan Preece has been average in the NASCAR Cup Series this year except on short tracks, many pundits consider Phoenix Raceway a springboard for Preece to potentially contend on Sunday. While he never led a lap at the track, Preece did get his best Phoenix finish with a 12th in the March event. Now, he has matched that with a 12th-place qualifying run, the best of his career. It is likely that the Stewart-Haas operation poured a lot of resources into this weekend in general since it is Kevin Harvick's final race. The results with Cole Custer were pretty clear in the Xfinity Series. Preece could benefit from SHR's intense focus on this weekend.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
