Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh (hand) has been cleared for contact by team doctors and participated normally during the Lightning’s practice on Friday. McDonagh was acquired by Tampa from the New York Rangers at the trade deadline on Feb. 26 but has not played for the Lightning yet. The 28-year-old may make his debut for Tampa as early as Saturday afternoon when the Bolts take on the Montreal Canadiens. McDonagh has produced offensively this season, earning 26 points in 49 games played, while being a defensive force for the struggling Rangers. His defensive skill will be welcome when he finally gets to play for Tampa, and his offensive capabilities will only be recharged by the Lightning’s scoring ability. Keep an eye open for updates on the veteran defenseman’s status as the matchup with Montreal gets closer.--Alex McKenzie
