Ryan Jeffers Hits First Spring Home Run Against Tampa Bay
4 years agoMinnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to Tampa Bay. Jeffers homered in his second at-bat of the day, then lined a single in his third at-bat to finish what was an impressive day for the 23-year-old backstop. MLB.com's Do Hyoung-Park notes that while Jeffers will be splitting time with fellow catcher Mitch Garver, it's a position with a fair amount of upside in the Twins strong lineup. Jeffers owns a .836 OPS with 21 homers in 167 career minor league games. He profiles as a superior pitch-framer to Garver, which should earn him a reasonable amount of playing time, though Garver's bat has more upside.
